Jean Jacques Girard Savigny Les Beaune 1er Cru Peuillets 2013

This bright, aromatic, pure-fruit Savigny-Lès-Beaune is from a 7th-generation family estate which has been based in this appellation since 1529. Today Jean-Jacques and his wife Agnès are in charge and have been slowly building up their vineyards to 15 hectares, covering top sites from Corton in the north, to Volnay in the south. They are now joined by their sons Vincent and François and make an impressive range of small-batch wines from across Burgundy. Aged in fine French oak barrels for 15 months, this fine Premier Cru is silky and poised, the flavours are classic, bright and fresh, with cherry fruit and a peppery note. Cellar or decant early. A fine match with feathered game, chicken or wild mushrooms.
