Clos Apalta 2018

The 2018 vintage was one of the coldest in Chile in the 21st century. The cool and rainy winter in 2017 ensured sufficient water reserves within the soils. The mild temperatures, as well as a good level of brightness during spring, encouraged an optimal flowering as the moderate temperatures from December 2017 to mid-February 2018 allowed for the berries’ gradual and high-quality fruit set and ripening. Although the second half of February was marked by a sharp rise in temperatures, accelerating ripening notably for early-ripening grape varieties, the coolness recorded in March encouraged sugars to slowly accumulate without any loss of acidity, ensuring a good balance. The low level of rainfall in autumn allowed the grapes to be harvested in fully ripe conditions. Generous and healthy, the harvest gave rise to a vintage of great quality, aromatic with a moderate level of alcohol and a beautiful freshness.

The wine is a beautifully deep red-purple colour with subtle dark highlights.

The intense nose mixes fragrances of spices and red and black fruits as well as notes of cedar.

The palate seduces with its elegant tannins as well as its optimal balance between finesse and concentration. Round and fresh, the palate unveils a beautifully persistent finish.
