Amalaya translates as ‘hope for a miracle’ in the indigenous language of the now extinct tribe, the Calchaquí. The winery is situated in Cafayate, Calchaquí Valley in Salta in the far north of Argentina at nearly 1,828 metres above sea level. The extreme conditions including minimal rainfall, very poor soils and strong daytime sunshine result in this powerful, yet elegant wine. A blend of Malbec (85%), Cabernet Franc (9%) and Tannat (6%) the wine is matured in barrel for approximately 12 months before bottling. Deep ruby red in colour, with aromas of red fruit and blackberries with spicy, vanilla notes imparted from the oak. This is a concentrated fruit forward wine with rounded, supple tannins and a long finish.
