We are delighted to have a guest host at the tasting table this Saturday. Anthony Vertadier Mabille is one of the most knowledgeable people we know when it comes to the wines of France, and he’ll have some of his fantastic wines open this Saturday. Anthony will have a duo of excellent Burgundy white wines alongside four superb reds encompassing three of the most classic French wine regions.
From Vignerons des Terres Secretes in southern Burgundy, Anthony will have the Macon Blanc 2016. This is a thoroughly crisp, unoaked Chardonnay that is made by one of the best co-operatives in France. The second white wine Anthony will be showcasing is the Macon-Vergisson ‘La Roche’ from Domaine Saumaize-Michelin 2016. From the small estate run by Roger and Christine Saumaize this wine is Biodynamic (organic and then some!), with a small proportion of barrel ageing, and genuinely hand made. A beautiful wine!
The reds open this weekend will include the Chateau Larroque 2012 from Bordeaux. With six years of age under it’s belt this wine is now perfect for drinking this Christmas. Anthony will then have two wines from France’s Rhone valley. From southern Rhone we will have the Domaine Lafond Roc-Epine Lirac 2016. This is a fantastic Grenache blend from one of the best vintages in southern Rhone for years. Then from northern Rhone we’ll have another modern classic, Domaine Yann Chave Crozes-Hermitage ‘Le Rouvre’ 2015. Jon tasted this wine a couple of months ago and has been talking about it ever since. Lastly, Anthony will open up one of the grand vintage wines from his Burgundy portfolio. The Domaine Bertrand Ambroise Nuits Saint Goerges 2007 is the epitome of well-matured and richly characterful Burgundy red.
With such a fantastic line-up of wines to taste we’ll be sure to see you at the tasting table this Saturday!
